Kobe Bryant on pressure

“Pressure is a privilege. It only comes to those who are playing the game at the highest level.”

- Kobe Bryant

Why Be Grateful for the Pressure?

Pressure is a privilege.

It's a sign that you're on the path to greatness. You're in the game and playing at the highest level. Most people sit in the audience and watch, but not you - you’re the star.

Pressure means that people are counting on you. It means that you have a responsibility to perform at your best. It means that you have an opportunity to show what you're really made of. That's not something to be afraid of - it's something to be grateful for.

I know that pressure can be tough. It can make you doubt yourself, be afraid to fail, feel like you're not good enough, or like you're never going to succeed.

But here's the thing: everyone feels pressure. It's not just you. The difference between the people who succeed and the people who don't is all about how they handle that pressure. Here’s how you can do it too:

  • Embrace the pressure

  • View the pressure as a challenge, not a threat

  • Use the pressure as motivation to work and be better

  • Be grateful that you have the opportunity

You're on stage, living life to the fullest, taking risks, and making things happen.

So the next time you feel pressure, don't be afraid of it. Be grateful for it. See it as a privilege, an opportunity to show what you're really made of. Because when you do, you'll be amazed at what you can achieve. Remember, pressure is a privilege. And it's one that you should be grateful for.

How to Start a Gratitude Habit

It all starts with taking action consistently. The easiest way to start getting more gratitude in your life is by making it a daily habit. Here are some suggestions on how to make it a habit:

  • Write down 3 things that you are grateful for every day and say them out loud

  • Create a gratitude jar with your family and friends - every day, write down 1 thing you’re grateful for and throw it in the jar. At the end of the week, empty the jar, and read about all the great things in your life.

  • Write a gratitude letter to someone once per week

The act of expressing gratitude increases your self-awareness and makes you open yourself to new ideas, thoughts, and beliefs.

College Basketball and Thank You Letters

Buzz Williams is the head basketball coach of the Texas A&M Aggies, and he writes 180 thank you notes per month! He was on Pardon My Take last year, and I listened to him talk about his practice and who he targets. It’s wild to think that he runs a full basketball program and still has time to write that many thank you’s! It motivates me and makes me realize I can do so much more.

“So, I write 120 people. 60 are to develop a relationship with, 30 are the people that, in essence, I work for, and 30 are connected to the game of basketball, regardless of where I’m employed. That’s 120, and then I write two thank you notes every single day, so, that’s 60. So, it’s 180 notes that I write every month.”
