Jack Nicklaus on Confidence
"Confidence is the most important single factor in this game, and no matter how great your natural talent, there is only one way to obtain it and sustain it: work."
- Jack Nicklaus

Confidence is NOT about Being Perfect

Confidence is often associated with the idea of being perfect, flawless, and never making mistakes. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Confidence is not about being perfect or never failing. It's about having the courage to try, to learn, and to grow from every experience. It's about embracing your imperfections and recognizing that nobody is perfect.
Many people believe that confidence is something that you're born with, and either you have it or you don't. But in reality, confidence is a skill that can be developed and improved upon. It's something that you can work on and cultivate. If you want to grow your confidence, you need to:
Embrace your imperfections
Be courageous and try new things
Understand that "failure” is part of the process
Expect challenges
Confidence comes from a willingness to learn and grow. Nobody knows everything, and there is always room for improvement. When you approach life with a growth mindset and a willingness to learn, you'll be able to develop new skills and improve upon your weaknesses. This, in turn, will help you to feel more confident in your abilities.
8 Phrases to Boost Confidence
What you think and say matters. Your words are powerful because they guide your focus. Where you focus, your energy will go. When you complain, you focus on the negative. When you compliment, you focus on the positive. Change the script by changing your language.
“I got this.”
Say it in the morning
Say it before a big event
Say it before a presentation
Say it at night
Boost your confidence and self-esteem because you really do got this!
“I choose to stay positive and believe in my future.”
Positivity is a choice. Belief is a choice. When you view the world this way, you are promoting a growth mindset and positive attitude. You can always control your attitude and response.
“I never give up on myself.”
You always believe in yourself and your power within. By saying this, you are building resilience and perseverance. You know there will be challenges along the way, but you do it for yourself not others.
“I think big and know that big things are coming my way.”
I love this one because you're thinking of your vision and have optimism for the future. If you don’t have belief in your WHY and where you are headed then you will stagnate. Motivation gets you going, discipline keeps you moving.
“I embrace the journey.”
You embrace the journey because it's not about the destination, but the lessons and experiences along the way. This mindset reduces your stress because it widens your time horizon. You think big picture and embrace all the moments along the way.
“I am confident in my abilities.”
When you're confident in yourself, it shows, and others take notice. Confidence is contagious. You set the tone and bring ownership with everything you do. Set the tone to be filled with self-assuredness and believe in your own capabilities.
“I have faith in myself.”
Inner strength and belief in yourself drives your mindset. It encourages you to reduce your negative self-talk and push through setbacks. It will help you stay focused and motivated because you know you can face any difficult situation.
“I am the example of resilience.”
This is an example of having a growth-mindset. This phrase builds your mental toughness and sense of determination. You change your perspective to view challenges as opportunities.
