Bill Walsh’s Thought on Success

"Success is not a destination, it's a journey. And along the way, there will be triumphs and failures, setbacks and comebacks. But as long as you keep moving forward, you'll reach your ultimate goal."

- Bill Walsh

The Importance of Celebrating Small Wins

You have to celebrate your wins big and small in life because they are proof that you are making progress and that hard work pays off. It brings joy, gratitude, and encouragement because life isn’t all wins. With any team, it creates a positive and motivated team culture that can make you strive for even more.

Even after achieving great success, the greats maintain a hunger for more and continue to work hard and strive for improvement. By avoiding complacency and staying humble, you maintain perspective and look to continually improve. This mindset shift allows you to stay focused, driven, and motivated when failures or setbacks might come your way. You realize with this approach that success is truly a journey, and that you need to maintain a steady mindset throughout it.

How Celebrating Small Wins Can Help Form a Lasting Habit

In this 2-minute video, Behavioral Scientist BJ Fogg shares proven ways to achieve any goal…and how to undo bad habits. We all have bad habits - just ask our parents, friends, and significant others!

Summary of the video:

Celebrate your habit - if it’s a new habit that you are trying to start, have a moment of gratitude every day.

Think about how you start your day - how you start the day drives your mindset for the rest of the day.

  • What do you look at?

  • What do you consume?

  • What are your morning habits/rituals?

Think about how you end your day - how you end the day will drive how you wake up in the morning.

  • What do you look at?

  • How do you prepare for bed?

  • What are evening habits/rituals?

Think about which emotions are driving the habits (ex: Why am I eating this cookie?).

Greatest Tradition of Them All

The Stanley Cup is the most prestigious trophy in the National Hockey League (NHL). It has a rich history and is steeped in tradition, making it one of the most iconic symbols in all of sports, also one of the best trophies to drink out of!

When a team wins the championship, each player gets a day with the cup. The cup travels around the world, making stops at the homes and hometowns of each player, giving them a chance to share the cup with their family, friends, and community.

This tradition began in 1995, when the NHL allowed each player on the winning team to have the cup for a day. Previously, the cup had only been passed among team executives and players. The decision to allow each player to have the cup was made to celebrate the players and their contribution to the championship.

There is actually a keeper of the cup. His name is Phil Pritchard and he travels with the cup throughout the year, accompanying it on its journey to each player's hometown…I bet that man has stories. Pritchard is responsible for the safety and well-being of the cup, ensuring that it remains in pristine condition throughout its travels.

The day with the cup is a special tradition that has become an integral part of the championship celebration. Each player gets to choose how they spend their day with the cup. Some players choose to take it to their hometown and share it with their family and friends, while others take it to a charity event or share it with their teammates.
