The Benefits of Doing The Right Thing
It’s easy to get caught up in the chase for success and lose sight of what really matters, but life is about doing the right thing, no matter what.
It means making decisions that align with your values.
It means making decisions that align with your principles.
It means making decisions that align with your purpose.
It means being honest.
It means being fair.
It means treating people with respect.
It means treating people with integrity.
Doing the right thing can be difficult, but taking the right action is what builds true character. When you do the right thing, you create a strong foundation for your life. You build trust and credibility with others. You also earn the respect of those around you, which can lead to opportunities and relationships that would not have been possible otherwise.
Most importantly, you build trust, credibility, and respect with yourself. Every day, you have to look in the mirror and face your truths, so be proud of the person that you are.
Remember, success is not just about winning. It's about doing the right thing, and that's what it takes to succeed.
How To Set Yourself Up for Success
Here is an interesting article about doing the right thing according to science.
Doing the right thing can be challenging at times, especially when we are faced with situations that test our moral compass. However, according to science, there are ways to make doing the right thing more likely.
Set Reminders - One way to remind ourselves to do the right thing is by setting reminders. Whether it's a text message or a sticky note, reminders can help us stay focused on our values and goals. A fascinating study found that simply mentioning the Ten Commandments before a tempting situation reduced cheating. This shows how powerful reminders can be in helping us make the right decisions.
Supervision - Another interesting study found that having a mirror nearby can lead to people working harder at a task. This is because the presence of a mirror serves as a form of supervision, making us more aware of our actions and their consequences. By placing ourselves in situations where we are being supervised, we are more likely to make better choices.
Get Enough Sleep - Getting enough sleep is crucial for our overall well-being, but did you know that it can also impact our decision-making? When we're tired, our ability to make good choices is impaired. By making sure we're well-rested, we're more likely to have the mental clarity to make the right decisions.
Hang Out with Good People - The people we surround ourselves with can have a significant impact on our behavior. Studies have shown that when we spend time with people who have similar values, we are more likely to behave in ways that align with those values. By surrounding ourselves with good people, we're more likely to be inspired to do the right thing.
Think About Your Childhood - Finally, thinking about our childhood can help us tap into our inner sense of morality. As children, we often have a strong sense of right and wrong. By reflecting on our childhood and the values we were taught, we can reconnect with that sense of morality and use it to guide our actions as adults.
Put yourself in position to do the right thing - it’s no different than how you put yourself in position for success!
